Made from birch, shrink boxes were used in the Viking era to store valuables, food or beverages. Each is a one-of-a-kind, custom item. The top fits into the box and acts like a plug; pull the top off with the handle.

Inspired by the forests, farms, fjords and fables of Scandinavia, Bill Jaeger has been woodcarving and birchbark crafting in the Nordic style for over 30 years. His passion for carrying on the traditions of the past led him to a 23-year career in teaching at The American Swedish Institute, Milan Village Arts School, and The Vesterheim Norwegian Museum where he received a gold medal in woodcarving.

Bill has enjoyed working with students at these venues to educate and inspire them to carry on the legacy of the craft.  Bill lives just south of Dalbo, Minnesota with his faithful dog Duke and a house full of Tomtar, Nisser, and Trolls.
