Made from birch, shrink boxes were used in the Viking era to store valuables, food or beverages. Each is a one-of-a-kind, custom item. The top fits into the box and acts like a plug; pull the top off with the handle. Bill Jaeger hails from Princeton, Minnesota and teaches classes in the Midwest for spoon carving and flat-plane carving. He harvests birch for his shrink boxes in Crow Wing County, MN.
